Senter for interkulturell kommunicasjon
Centre for Intercultural Communication (SIK)

The aim of SIK is to be leading in Norway as to provide, edit and pass on research-based knowledge of the global cultural abundance and intercultural encounters. Our perspective is somewhere between research-based knowledge and practical reality. SIK is an independent department of Misjonshøgskolen I Stavanger, mainly based on external assignments.

SIK is a base of competence for persons with special knowledge relevant for different cultures, languages or certain intercultural problems and challenges. This base makes persons with long experience easily accessible for organisations or companies. The stab consists of persons who have lived for longer periods of life in other cultures.

SIK give courses about intercultural communication and understanding, arrange contacts between resource persons and institutions that ask for information or advice, participate in international projects etc. SIK is at disposal for official and private institutions and organisations in questions about communication and interaction between people with different cultural background, be it multicultural groups in Norway or questions related to internationalisation or globalisation.

National, Nordic and International network
SIK co-operates with the Stavanger University and other universities and university colleges in Norway. Co-operation projects or subjects can be of different kinds as water-cleansing or education in multicultural understanding.
SIK has developed a Nordic net of contacts with resource persons in the speciality of intercultural communication. SIK is a member of NIC = Nordic Network for Intercultural Network.
SIK co-operates with SIETAR-Europa (Society of Intercultural Education, Training and Research, 750 members) an organisation for researchers and practitioners of intercultural communication.
