Additional information:
Gautesete School has 500 pupils from class 1 to 10. Approximately 20% of these are multicultural pupils. The school is working actively against xenofobia and discrimination through integration of these pupils by giving them both good linguistic education and skills in all subjects.

A "Focus school"
Gautesete school co-operates with the senter for international education at the Oslo University College and is in that connection a "Focus School" for multilinguistic education in Rogaland county. Mainly this means that the school get assistance to organise and develop this education, and that the teachers get knowledge of how to give the multiciltural pupils optimal education.

Examles of special actions are:
Grouping of boys
Conflicts between groups of multilinguistic pupils and between some in these groups and Norwegian pupils were based on misunderstanding and minimal knowledge of religious and cultural
questions. By grouping these pupils and their teachers to talk about the problems and give mutual information the conflicts disappeared.

Groups for mothers
The mothers to some of the multicultural pupils have little contact with Norwegian women. Therefore the school has arranged groups of mothers to give them education in Norwegian language and culture. It is an economic question to be able to offer this option. The course has enhanced social communication between the women, and also the contact with the actual families.

The school action "Hei".
This is part of a yearly international project in connection with "The week of the elementary school". Every year money for children in the 3rd world is collected. This action is ended one evening with an open school. Then the parents of the multicultural pupils are responsible for the "International café".
