Additional information:
Omagh Integrated Primary school was established in 1990 by a group of parents who believed that although there were already many excellent schools in the Omagh area, the artificial segregation of young children on the grounds of religion was harmful to society in Northern Ireland and therefore ultimately harmful for their own children. They did not believe that integrated education was the solution to all problems but rather that it could be a part of the solution.

The school currently has 230 children and 12 full-time teachers. The school caters for pupils aged 5-11 and also has a nursery school attached which is attended by pupils aged 3-4 years.
This is a highly innovative school which aims to receive at least one major award each year for its educational activities. Amongst those received are the prestigious Government Charter Mark in the year 2000, where the comments of the judging panel included the statement "You are working in the spirit of the Charter Mark. The ethos of the school, emanating from its founding principles drives your setting of high standard and your commitment to openness, co-operative working and accountability". Also recently awarded are Grounds for the Future Award 2001, The Health Promoting School Award Gold Level 2001 and The School in the Community Awards 2002.
A new school building, is now being planned to environmentally friendly standards.

All teachers in the school are undergoing a major programme of computer training at present .which will be completed in June 2002.

The school has links with 46 other schools in the province, through its membership of The Northern Ireland Council for Integrated Education (N.I.C.I.E.). It co-operates with other schools in the town of Omagh, including St Connor's Primary School, Omagh County Primary School, and Heatherbank Special School. There are currently international pen-pal links with Skibereen, Ireland, Vienna in Austria, Bulgaria, and links with 2 schools in France. French is taught to all pupils from age 9 upwards (Year 5). The school participated in Minerva ODL project with Norway and Portugal 1999-2000.
