Additional information:
Danila Kumar elementary school was established in 1961. It is named after the national heroine from the second world war.
The school is located in a quiet suburb of the capital of Slovenia Ljubljana, fifteen minutes away from the city centre.
Danila Kumar school is a medium size state owned school with around 850 pupils from 6 to 14 years old and around 120 people of working staff.
The school offers two educational programmes: national and international. School desks in a national programme are occupied with slovene children from the neighbourhood, who represent the majority of pupils in the school, while there are around 100 foreign students attending an international programme each year.
The Slovene department has the same educational programme as all other elementary schools in Slovenia, following the Slovene school legislation, while the international programme is different and is based on educational philosophy of International Baccalaureate Organisation centred in Switzerland.
In the last five years the elementary school obligation for everybody in Slovenia has been changing from an eight years programme into a nine years programme with children going to school one year earlier than in the past, while the eight years international programme remains the same.
The headmaster and the school administration are common for both departments, as well as some teachers and the school pedagogue.
There are some activities, running at school, such as open door days, teacher trainings, teacher conferences, …, which are common for all children, teachers and other professional workers.
Danila Kumar is a place where a variety of cultures, lifestyles and social backgrounds plays a big role in its everyday life and work. That 's why there are many everyday chances for educating youth about general human qualities, rights and obligations, for endeavouring to create a peaceful and friendly atmosphere, and for teaching children the sensibility for others ' needs.
There are also two projects, in which the Danile Kumar school is working on: »Healthy school« and »Ghana project«.
