Sandnes videregaende skole (Upper Secondary School),SVGS, has about 500 students and 45 teachers.
When the students enter this school at 16, they will have a first year where most of their lessons are compulsory in the sense that they all have to do same subjects.
In year 2 and 3 they will have options to specialize in natural sciences, languages and politics and social science.
Even though they specilize in year 2 and 3, they all have to do history, geography, Norwegian, PE and religion.
Over the last 7-8 years the school has put an emphasis on "internationalization", meaning that teachers who want to participate in international projects will have the administration`s and school authorities` support to do so.
The school also has a long tradition in taking students abroad on study tours to England, Belgium, Germany, France, Denmark and The Czeck Republic.
In addition there have been several staff study tours abroad over the last few years.
We may also mention that bilingual teaching (English and Norwegian) in natural sciences and history, has been part of our "internationalization".
Most of our students will go on to university studies, so this is a school considered as a good starting point for further education. Many of our students will continue their education abroad.
