Additional information:
The Otto-Wels primary school has 650 pupils and 50 teachers and is
situated in Berlin- Kreuzberg. This is the most multi-ethnical district of
Berlin, about 30% of the inhabitants are migrants, and in the area around
our school this quota is nearly 70%. That means we have a very high
migrant quota in our school. We have pupils from 25 different countries,
most of them are Turkish.
Primary schools in Berlin reach from the 1. to 6. grade. (age 6-12),
especially the beginners in the 1.grade have a lot of problems with the
German language. Our school offers language support courses (Deutsch als
Zweitsprache), and also courses for the mothers, which also often speak
hardly any German.
There are also various clubs (spots, computer, French and Spanish, English
for first-graders etc. in order to offer activities in the afternoon.
