Dr. Janja Zitnik worked as specialist consultant in the preparation of a new textbook for secondary schools, for the subject Contemporary Slovenian Literature (Branja 4, Ljubljana: DZS, 2003). This is the first textbook (confirmed by the National Council of Education) to include Slovenian emigrant writers. Emigrant poets are presented in a separate chapter, and a presentation of the major emigrant novelist is incorporated in an integral chapter on Slovenian prose. In the concluding part of the textbook, Zitnik contributed a special section with a general introduction of Slovenian emigrant literature, and summarized her findings on the role of emigrant and immigrant literatures in relation to current multicultural concepts. The plan for future textbooks is to integrate the discussion of emigrant literature in joint chapters on Slovenian poetry, prose or drama, and thus place their work within the larger framework of the national literature. Dr. Zitnik is also making arrangements for her preparation of an anthology of Slovenian emigrant literature which should be ready for print by 2005. It will be published within a book series titled Klasje, a series of Slovenian literary works issued for secondary school students.
