Migration and migrants in European schools are topics which become more and more relevant in many countries. How can teachers be supported to deal with it? What practical approaches for everyday teaching situations could be helpful?
This is to notify you about the Teacher Training Course - "Migration learning in European schools - a practical approach". This course is a product of a European Comenius Project in cooperation with the University of Hannover and other European Partners.

Migration learning in European schools - a practical approach.
Using exercises and materials on the topic of migration as part of
intercultural education.
PREPARATION:
Reflecting on migration issues in your country
OBJECTIVES:
Participants will:
- be able to realize links and issues arising from migration
- obtain an overview of the European migration history
- get to know the Turkish educational system and have the chance to visit
a Turkish school
- receive specific information on migration and diversity in Turkey
- be introduced to and test exercises and material that can be
incorporated in teaching in different subjects and grades (for pupils aged
10-19).
- learn to be aware of racism and get to know its different dimensions.
- self-reflect by critically analyzing own attitudes and the power
structures of society
- get to know examples of enquiry based learning teaching methods which
are linked to migration topics
STRUCTURE:
The course will include lectures and workshops.
Participants will get opportunities for group work, for self reflection,
for testing methods, for discussing with each other and sharing own
experiences.
The introduced methods for migration learning are for the most part
“active learning” based exercises, i.e. personal story, empirical
approaches, questionnaires, interviews, video work, field trips, role
play, pedagogical games, document analysis and so on.
